On the wild northern edge of Catalunya, in the windswept foothills of the Pyrenees, Domaine Roc des Anges crafts wines of purity, light, and remarkable finesse. These are mountain vineyards, often facing north, where cool nights preserve freshness and tension, and Mediterranean days bring ripeness without excess, yielding wines that pulse with energy, elegance, and precision.

Reviving the Soul of Mediterranean Vines

Rooted in decomposed schist soils – light, sandy, and poor in nutrients – the vines must search deep for life. These shallow soils, combined with dry farming and biodynamic cultivation, produce grapes that are naturally low in potential alcohol and rich in salinity, acidity, and finesse. The yields are remarkably low (~20 hectoliters per hectare), a natural restraint that lies at the heart of the wines’ depth, clarity, and mineral purity.
Across 83 parcels and 50 biodynamically farmed hectares, many vines are over a century old; others are planted from ancient massale selections, including nearly forgotten Mediterranean varieties like Carignan Gris. Together, they form a living memory of traditional viticulture, reconnected to its origins.

Crafted by Nature, Guided by Hand

Farming has followed organic principles since 2008 and biodynamics since 2011, with minimal inputs and meticulous handwork from pruning through harvest. Each parcel is approached individually, with deep respect for the rhythm of nature and the life of the soil.
In the cellar, philosophy is one of low intervention: native yeasts, no new oak, no temperature control, no corrections, no enzymes, no fining. Reds are gently vinified in concrete to express fruit purity and finesse; whites are raised in large oak or Burgundian barrels to bring out texture, lift, and nuance.

A New Chapter, Rooted in Continuity

The arrival of Thibault Ponthier marks a new chapter for Roc des Anges—one of continuity and renewed ambition. With a background in high-end gastronomy and years at the helm of one of France’s most respected fruit specialty houses, Thibault brings both palate and precision to his role.
His wine journey began hands-on, with harvests and training in Burgundy and the Roussillon, complemented by the WSET Diploma and formal studies in viticulture and oenology in Beaune. He also spent over two years as a partner alongside the estate’s founders, Stéphane and Marjorie Gallet, immersing himself in their vision and philosophy. These experiences, combined with insights gained from leading winegrowers he trained with, have shaped his own approach—rooted in a commitment to expressing this unique terroir through living soils.

Roc des Anges wines appear on the lists of nearly 300 Michelin-starred restaurants across France, including around 20 of the 30 three-starred establishments. These are not wines that seek to impress through power, they shine through restraint, clarity, and vibrancy.
